Allison Collins is an independent curator, writer, and researcher in Vancouver, BC. She is presently the Coordinator of Public Programs at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Her recent roles and activities have included working as the Event Manager for Institutions by Artists: The Convention, collaborating on Wherewithal, a semi-regular curatorial collaboration with Robin Simpson, and research toward Taking Advantage, a curatorial co-production with Michael Turner focusing on the ‘Mainstreeters.’ Other independent curatorial projects include “Moveable Facture,” (VIVO Media Arts Centre, Vancouver, 2012); “Suspicious Futures,” (Vtape, Toronto; DIM Cinema, Vancouver, 2011; PLATFORM, Winnipeg, 2012) and “Hold Still Wild Youth: The Gina Show Archive,” (Or Gallery and VIVO, Vancouver, 2010). Her writing has also been published across Canada, including Stride Gallery, Calgary, PLATFORM, Winnipeg, Or Gallery, VIVO Media Arts Centre, Republic Gallery, C Magazine, Fuse, ARTSlant, and with Publication Studio, Vancouver. In 2011 she published ARCLines, a series of historical profiles documenting the origins of Vancouver’s artist-run centres, on Arcpost.ca. Collins is the President of the Board of Directors at 221A Artist Run Centre. She holds an MA in Art History (Critical and Curatorial Studies) from UBC.
