Kate Steinmann


Kate Steinmann is an editor at two Vancouver-based magazines of contemporary art: Fillip, for which she recently edited the multi-issue series “Apparatus, Capture, Trace: Biopolitics and Photography,” and Yishu, a journal of contemporary Chinese art co-founded by Ken Lum and Zheng Shengtian. Currently she is completing her doctoral studies in art history at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver. Her research focuses on biopolitics and visibility in contemporary video art. She has an M.A. in art history from UBC and a B.A. in art history from Trinity College, University of Toronto. An award-winning art writer, Steinmann is also former Director of Publications and Senior Editor at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Chicago. She began her editorial career in the Publications Department of the Art Institute of Chicago and has worked independently for a range of art institutions and art book publishers in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
