Jaleh Mansoor works on problems located at the intersection of aesthetic abstraction and abstraction (the historicity of capitalism) in both modern and contemporary art. Her first book, Marshall Plan Modernism, which addresses formal and procedural violence in the work of Alberto Burri, Lucio Fontana, and Piero Manzoni, is forthcoming from Duke University Press. Her current project focuses on the intersection among labor, value, and “bare life” in the work of Santiago Sierra and Claire Fontaine, alongside other contemporary practices that examine the limits of the human. She is an Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of British Columbia.
